The Cooley Society, also known as The Denton A. Cooley Surgical Society, was formed in 1972 by cardiovascular surgeons and fellows of The Texas Heart Institute, in honor of heart surgeon Denton Cooley.
Today, the Cooley Society boasts 850 medical members representing 49 countries and 44 of the 50 United States. Since its founding, the Society has convened every two years to promote scientific exchange and renew social affiliation among its members.
In recognition of its international reach, the Society has held scientific meetings in eight different countries.
